Session Synopsis

One of the chief concerns facing SME owners is how to effect an orderly and affordable transfer of business in the event of premature death or passing of their business partners. As a Financial Advisor to business owners, you can play a pivotal role in helping your client find the best solution for his business and family. Among the varied solutions available, Buy-Sell arrangement is that which can ensure that both ownership of the company continues and the interests of the owners are taken care of in the event of various contingencies (trigger events).

Workshop Learning Objectives

  • Advisors will understand how Buy-Sell mechanism works in the SME market.
  • With the newfound technical knowledge, Advisors will have the confidence to target the SME segment, utilizing Buy-Sell arrangements to advise their prospects on business protection.

Session Outline

  1. Explore how Buy-Sell Agreements (BSAs) can be structured to meet the specific needs of the different types of SMEs (eg company vs partnership).
  2. Identify the common trigger events that can activate a BSA.
  3. Explain how BSA helps to ensure continuity of ownership in an SME.
  4. Understanding how Trusts can be used in BSAs.
  5. The use of Insurance Policies to fund the BSA.

Alan Wong

Alan, is a STEP Affiliate of The Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP), an Associate Financial Planner®(AFP®) accredited with the Financial Planning Association of Singapore (FPAS), and an Associate Estate Planning Practitioner (AEPP®).

He is the Principal Consultant of w3 Consultancy Pte Ltd which provides training and consultancy services in the specialized field of Estate Planning. He has trained and certified at least 2000 Estate Planner in Singapore. He is sought after speaker and trainer for Private Banks and financial consultants from insurers as well as IFAs. Alan has also developed 2 Buy-Sell Courses which are recognised by IBF under its Financial Training Scheme.

A financial consultant himself with more than 27 years of experience, he focuses his practice on planning for Business Owners using estate planning.
